MemberBut hey, for our fur-balls’ choppers and that swap-meet breath they got going? Total game changer. Sure enough though, their bank-account-friendly pricing got my eyebrows doing the tango. But as far as Fido’s nashers are concerned? Nothing short of sorcery!
Just don’t count on them being a five-star Michelin meal for your pampered pooch. But if pure joy’s your goal (and isn’t it always?), these weirdly shaped green bones might just do the trick.

MemberThe ingredients, I’ll tell ya, they’re not messing around – real meat, apple cider vinegar annd all that jazz. Sure, it’s a bit pricier than picking up that bargain brand stuff but hey! You pay for what you get right? That’s what they say.
I mean, do we really want to scrimp on what we feed our beloved dogs? I think not! So yeah, go give it a shot. Heck, try rustling up your own dinner from it if you fancy. But fair warning – the Beef Stew variety smells so good you might end up enjoying it yourself!

MemberRocky is a bit of a picky eater (which might just be code for ‘spoiled.’) He sniffed around it for a good ten minutes before he took a single bite. I could practically hear him thinking “what’s this peasant chow you’re serving me?” The kibble pieces are tiny – perfect for puppies or miniature breeds, not so much for my big chunk.
On the positive side, the ingredients don’t seem too shabby although chicken meal as first ingredient rather than whole chicken is kind of underwhelming – just call me old-fashioned!
All in all, it’s not appalling if you’re trying to save a few bucks on your furkid’s cuisine but let’s put it this way: with WAG, you’re not exactly dining at the Ritz Carlton. Hope that helps anyone pondering their next dog dish dilemma!

MemberBut hey, it’s not all sunshine and belly rubs. That stuff will poke a hole in your wallet faster than Zeus destroys his chew toys. And let me tell you, that boy has some killer jaws. So if you’re rolling in dough like a baker on steroids, by all means go for it! Otherwise, there are other brands out there that won’t require taking out a second mortgage on the house.
So yeah, top marks for quality and taste (according to Mr. Picky), but when it comes to cost… Ouch! It’s like they say: “Nothing comes free”, or was that “No such thing as a free lunch”? Ah who cares! When you’ve got dogs, anything about ‘free’ is just fantasy.

MemberLook, it’s gourmet cuisine for dogs – I get it. But me, I’ve got Darwin, my ol’ French bulldog. He’d merrily munch on an old sock if I let him. So, luxury dining isn’t really his style.
Tried the stuff once and sure, Mr. Nose-in-the-air licked his bowl clean but he does the same with literally any edible thing you put in front of him! Do they use some good ingredients? Sure. Will your dog eat it? Probably. Should you take out a personal loan to afford feeding your dog this stuff regularly? Ehhhh don’t know about that one chief.
But hey, if you’re made of money and want to treat Fido like the king/queen they obviously are in your eyes, go right ahead! Just remember that not all breeds need the same diet, and this one-size-fits-all gourmet meal may not be the silver bullet. You’d probably want to consult with your vet before deciding to switch over permanently to any new food type.

MemberI’ve actually fed my Lab Trixie Member’s Mark dog food for quite some time now, and I can say that she absolutely loves it. I like how this brand offers decent protein content without resorting to unnamed meat sources, which is a big plus in my book.
At first, I was skeptical due to the lower price point. But after doing some research and seeing the quality ingredients they use (chicken or lamb as the first ingredient, brown rice, fruits & veggies), I decided to give it a shot. Also, I find it pretty convenient to pick up during my Sam’s Club runs.
Trixie’s coat has been shinier than ever, and her energy level seems to be off the charts. That said, every pooch is different. It’s always a good idea to monitor closely when switching their diet – look out for any changes in behavior, bowel movement consistency or frequency.
Remember folks, high price doesn’t always mean high quality when it comes to pet food. Sometimes those cheaper brands can also get the job done real good! Just be sure you’re doing your research and, most importantly, paying attention to your dog’s feedback.
Cheers!

MemberOnly thing is, the size of the kibble pieces are pretty big so might not be ideal for very small dogs or senior dogs with dental issues. It is a bit on the pricier side compared to some other brands but it’s quality stuff packed with good nutrients. Personally, I’m going to stick with Nutra Nuggets for now since Max seems happy and healthy on it.
Just remember every dog’s different though so what works for one may not work for another. Always best to consult your vet when making significant changes to your pupper’s diet! Good luck finding the best fit for your fur baby!

MemberLoyall does focus on ingredients that are simple and natural, which is quite comforting as a pet parent. No artificial colours, flavours or preservatives — that’s what they claim. And honestly, so far so good for us.
Price point is a smidge high compared to some other feeds, but then again, you gotta remember – we’re investing in our doggo’s health here. It’s kind of like eating organic myself; costs more but hopefully means fewer health problems down the road.
All in all, I’d say give it a shot. Every dog has their own likes and dislikes, but if Max’s reaction is any indication, yours might end up loving it just as much!
friendly-dogdad-765
MemberOn our last vet visit, she commented that Max was looking particularly healthy which made me feel good about my choice. Haven’t noticed any negatives per se – no adverse reactions or anything like that. And plus, the price point is definitely an added bonus.
However, every dog’s unique so it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. What works for some may not work for others. So I’d say, go ahead and give it a shot. If your pup likes it and doesn’t have any issues, then stick with it!

MemberThe good thing I like about Beneful is its quality ingredient list. The first thing you’ll see on their package is real meat, and that’s reassuring for a dog parent like me who always worries about what my dog is eating. Jake particularly loves the beef-flavored ones – guess he got his appetite from me, ha!
The only downside which some folks might not be keen about is the addition of grains. Now Jake doesn’t seem to mind it and hasn’t shown any signs of allergies either. But if your pooch has a sensitive tummy or grain allergies, maybe look at something else?
Overall, I’d say we’re pretty satisfied with Beneful. Keeps Jake’s coat shiny and our vet says he’s in top shape so I guess we’ll stick with it for now!

MemberOkay, I mean sure if your dog has a digestive system on par with a steel-clad garbage disposal, maybe they’ll manage to eat this stuff with minimal issues… but my little Max couldn’t handle it. Tried ’em once – thought hey, pretty colors and reportedly ‘real’ meat chunks sprinkled all over the commercial – must be good eh?
Well folks, let me give you the 411. Max took one sniff and looked at me as if I’d just tried to pawn off leftover broccoli for steak. I coaxed him into trying some and needless to say let’s just say it was an “explosive situation” for three days straight afterwards!
So quick recap: Yeah it’s cheap. Yeah it looks like a rainbow threw up in a kibble bag. But seriously folks, do your dogs (and rugs) a favor, invest a few extra bucks for better quality food. The only thing Beneful is beneficial for is weightlifting since you’re probably gonna have to carry that full bag of food right back to the store! Happy feeding!

MemberWe’ve been feeding our golden retriever, Daisy, Iams Proactive Health Adult Dry Dog Food for about a year now and she seems to realy dig it. Her coat’s been shinier and she just looks… healthier, you know? Plus, the vet says her weight is ideal and we don’t see any tummy issues.
The food itself smells pretty good, not strong or repelling like some others out there and has a decent grain-free formula. Price-wise, it’s reasonable too considering the quality.
However, keep in mind that each doggo is unique! What works for Daisy might not necessarily sit well with your fur buddy. Always best to transition their diet slowly and observe any changes. Should they seem unhappy or react badly (like diarrhea or vomiting), consult your vet pronto.
So all in all – good stuff, but always monitor your pooch when changing diets! 🙂
01/03/2025 at 5:16 AM in reply to: Optimizing Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition From the Start #2072friendly-dogdad-765
MemberI’ve got a Newfoundland, so I totally get the challenges with feeding large breed pups. Their grow is on a whole different level – it’s like they suddenly sprout overnight! But what’s super important here is to actually slow that growth down. Yeah, sounds counterintuitive, right?
Well here’s the thing. Fast growth in big bubs can lead to joint and bone issues later. So, you gotta find a food that isn’t too packed with protein and has just the right amount of calcium and phosphorus. Don’t get enticed by “high-protein” labels – balance is key here.
My vet told me that up until six months, Newfies should be getting around 25% protein and 14% fat. Obviously every breed is different, so definitely ask your vet about the ideal proportions for your pup. And Oh! Biggie–no overfeeding even if those puppy eyes beg for more!
Chew toys are great supplements during teething time while helping their gnawing needs without adding unnecessary extra calories.
It’s a bit of trial and error but keep an eye on their shape – you should be able to feel ribs but not see them, and they should have a nice ‘waist’ when viewed from above.
Anyway, I hope this helps and good luck with your gentle giant! They’re a handful at times, but such lovely companions ❤️🐶
12/24/2024 at 9:31 AM in reply to: “Need Honest Pawstruck Dog Food Reviews from Fellow Dog Parents” #3281friendly-dogdad-765
MemberIn all seriousness though, it’s brilliant. Buster’s coat has been shining like a brand new penny ever since we switched over to Pawstruck. Plus, I swear his tail hasn’t stopped wagging – obsessed is putting it lightly.
Prices? Well now, don’t even get me started there. You’d think they’re dishing out some gourmet dish by the rate they charge but hey, can you realy put a price tag on your buddy’s happiness?
Just make sure to check the ingredient list thoroughly; my picky eater won’t touch anything with peas. Who knew dogs could be so peculiar over veggies?
Anyway, some of us have budgets that don’t stretch as far as our dog’s appetite for the good stuff (sigh). If you can afford it though -Pawstruck’s definitely worth considering. To each their own, and their dog’s belly too!
